Motivating a software development team: Daniel Apps Tips

  1. Know the personal interests of each of our developers: Getting to know what objectives they have, what they are looking for within the company and where they would like to go. Supporting their concerns and helping them to find their space in the company will be a plus for everything to turn out even better than expected.
  2. Recognize individual achievements: It’s great that we can help our developers correct mistakes and, through constructive criticism, get them to improve their work every day. But, in addition to this, it is just as important that we recognize a job well done and, therefore, a few words to congratulate them for it always increases their motivation to continue doing a good job.
  3. Take into account opinions, suggestions and proposals: Asking their opinion about new changes, projects or suggestions and giving developers the opportunity to express themselves, will give us new points of view in which both parties can benefit while making them feel more recognized and valued.
  4. Comfortable and adequate workspace: Don’t separate developers, or employees with high walls and computers that don’t allow them to see beyond the screen. Let’s offer a workplace where they can feel comfortable taking care of all the details: light, decoration, smell, etc. Ambiance plays a fundamental role in their motivation and productivity.
  5. Encourage social relationships within the company: Organizing activities where developers or employees can get to know each other helps to make a really good work environment. Dinners, events, contests, even celebrating birthdays ensures a close link between one and the other.
  6. Promoting and strengthening teamwork: Establish communication ties, transmit trust, facilitate them to express ideas and concerns, guide them to resolve conflicts. As you can see, the steps to work in a team constitute a process and go beyond just assigning responsibilities. Team activities contribute to raising productivity, enriching alternatives for making decisions, creating an atmosphere of cooperation between people, which is also healthy for the work environment and the team’s motivation.
  7. Offer training courses: If we want our company to differentiate itself from the rest and to be able to add new projects, offering training courses may be the point we were looking for. In this way, developers will be motivated to train in more areas and to have the opportunity to continue growing professionally.
